Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Attorney
Approved R. 1:40 Post ESP Economic Mediator in the State of New Jersey

Bruce Matez is one of the top divorce and family law lawyers in Southern New Jersey. Bruce has over 24 years of experience handling all types of family law matters including but not limited to divorce (including complex divorce litigation), custody and parenting time (visitation), child support, alimony/spousal support, adoption, domestic violence, equitable distribution of marital property, equitable allocation of marital debt, child abuse and neglect (formerly DYFS) matters, same sex Civil Unions and Domestic Partnerships. He has substantial experience in preparing and negotiating pre-marital and cohabitation agreements and divorce settlement agreements.

A significant portion of his practice involves serving as mediator for people who are seeking to avoid litigating their divorce, post-divorce and other family law disputes in court. He is often appointed by the court and colleagues as a mediator or arbitrator and is widely recognized as one of the top mediators in South Jersey. Bruce is also a trained Collaborative Divorce Law practitioner, which is a less expensive and more amicable alternative to divorce litigation. He is a founding member of the South Jersey Collaborative Divorce Professionals, the first of its kind in this area. He has also been appointed by the court and chosen by colleagues to serve as a parenting coordinator and a Guardian Ad Litem for children who are embroiled in a custody or parenting time dispute between their parents.

Clients truly value not just his years of experience, but his ability to "stand in their shoes" and understand the convergence of their financial, personal and emotional issues. He focuses on assuring that his clients are well educated in the law relating to their own case, and making sure his clients find a comfort level to be able to move forward and realize personal goals, without financially bankrupting themselves and their families.

Bruce was a founding member of the Thomas S. Forkin Family Law American Inn of Court for which he served on the Executive Committee from 1997-2009 and is a Master Emeritus. In June 2018, Bruce was presented with the Honorable Joseph M. Nardi, Jr Award, This prestigious award is presented to a member of the South Jersey Family Law community whose commitment to the practice of law encourages and exemplifies civility, humility, compassion and a moral/ethical obligation to the welfare of children and families, in general. This commitment should be further evidenced by participation in continuing legal education, whether formally or informally, and a willingness to act as an advisor/mentor to less experienced attorneys.

He is currently serving on the Family Law Executive Committee of Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, as well as the Family Law Committees of the Burlington, Camden and Gloucester County Bar Associations, He is a member of several other professional organizations. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Maryland (1986), Bruce received his law degree from Villanova University School of Law (Now the Charles Widger School of Law) in 1989.
